Zoo School

Zoo School

Zoo School provides teachers and students with in-depth exposure to both local and global plants and animals. Through hands on experiences and interactions with experts, students can become emotionally engaged with the conservation issues facing our planet.

Ideas for inspiration could include:

  • Investigating the diversity of life on the planet
  • Engaging in environmental issues and taking action
  • Exploring the roles of zoos
  • Connecting with the diverse wildlife and eco-regions of Canada

Andrea Beaty

Zoo School Coordinator

I grew up in Kenora, Ontario and obtained an Honours Bachelor of Outdoor Recreation, Parks and Tourism with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, as well as a teaching diploma from Waikato University in New Zealand. I have six years of classroom teaching experience within Alberta and I feel grateful every day that I am able to work in the education department at the Calgary Zoo. I believe that education and connecting students to nature is key to the sustainability of our planet.
