Education Act Delayed for School Boards
The Education Minister announced June 3, 2016 that Alberta's new
Education Act and its 16 proposed regulations have been delayed following a review by the NDP government. The
School Act will remain in effect for the 2016-17 school year.
The CBE supports the government’s decision to take more time to review and consult on this important legislation. Full implementation will take time and resources. The CBE is well positioned to respond to the new policy requirements but we need time to develop policies and practices that are informed by public input and that align with the new Act.
We will rely on our public engagement framework to seek public input on changes that directly impact our stakeholders.
As more information becomes available, the CBE will make it available on this website, as well as through our regular school and community channels.
Additional information about the new Education Act and its 16 regulations can be found in the Alberta's
K to 12 Education Legislation and Regulations.
