Community Engagement

Community Engagement Your Voice Matters

Your Voice Matters

The CBE is committed to involving people in decisions that affect them. Your perspectives help us to make the best decisions on behalf of our students. Within such a large school system, there are many opportunities to provide input and feedback.

Some engagement initiatives involve a number of school communities and are coordinated at the system level. Below are the system community engagement initiatives that are currently underway.

Other engagement initiatives happen at the school level. You can find out more about school-based engagements by visiting the school website.

Active and Upcoming Engagements and Public Consultations

High Schools

The CBE will be gathering thoughts and perspectives from staff, students and parents on high schools starting in spring 2019. This will be a multi-year engagement process focused on developing a sustainable system-wide plan for high schools that continues to offer students access, flexibility and choice (as outlined in the CBE’s high school success strategy). Accommodation Planning and Engagement for Possible Relocation of the Louise Dean Centre

The Louise Dean Centre is a program for pregnant and parenting teens located in Kensington School. The centre is currently in a building that is at capacity for the program it serves. This facility requires significant infrastructure investments and has one of the highest operating costs per student in the system.

To ensure quality programming continues into the future, a recommendation to consider the closure of the program for the purpose of relocation to Dr. Norman Bethune School is being proposed. A move to a new facility would ensure that the program is best suited, situated and sustainable to meet student programming and learning needs into the future. Read more >>

School Budget

In the spring of 2019, schools will share information with school councils and parents about the CBE and school budget process and gather feedback about the school budget as it relates to school results and the school development plan. Visit your school website for more information.
