Changes to Programming and Site Locations | 2018-19
Chinook Learning Services is the Calgary Board of Education’s provider of high school upgrading, ELL/LINC and continuing education (professional development and corporate training).
Chinook Learning Services has moved out of Viscount Bennett and Erlton campus. The CBE did not receive government funding to maintain these facilities, which are at the end of their life cycles. We determined that moving Chinook Learning Services into existing and operating high schools, that have available space, would enable us to continue offering some Chinook Learning Services programs. With the move, Chinook Learning Services changed the scope of programs they offer due to the current use and space constraints at the new locations.

We encourage interested students to contact Chinook Learning Services at 403-777-7200 to speak with someone about available upgrading options. Students over 20 may have options to take upgrading courses through other local adult learning organizations if Chinook Learning Services is not able to accommodate them.
Continuing Education
Chinook Learning Services will continue to offer professional development courses at Lord Shaughnessy High School along with corporate training through
Continuing Education. Online personal development courses will also be available, however classroom-based personal development courses will no longer be offered.

Chinook Questions & Answers
Background
There are several reasons these changes are necessary now. While relocating Chinook Learning Services programs has been discussed for years, due to various factors the CBE has been unable to move forward. For example, we needed to know how the building and modernizing of so many K-12 schools would impact the space available. Additionally, with the opening of Nelson Mandela High School in the north and Joane Cardinal-Schubert High School in the south (Sept 2018), learning spaces in our system have opened up to accommodate Chinook Learning Services programming and students. Now that the options are known, the decisions have been made.
