CBE Schools Will Remain Open on Monday, Sept. 19

Sep. 15, 2022

The Calgary Board of Education joins others around the world in mourning the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and extends condolences to all members of the Royal Family. Monday, Sept. 19 has been declared a national and provincial day of mourning.

Calgary Board of Education schools and workplaces will remain open as scheduled.

In honour of Her late Majesty, all schools are expected to engage in a moment of silence at a planned time in your school’s schedule. Schools may discuss Her late Majesty, her life and public service, and what students will remember about her. This will look different in every classroom.

The province is holding an outdoor ceremony at the Alberta legislature at 10 a.m. This event will be livestreamed and some teachers may show this in class.

As always, we respect parents/guardians right to make their own decisions about sending their children to school. If your child will not be attending classes on Monday, please ensure you contact your school's attendance line to report the absence.
