CBE Students Show Their Entrepreneurial Spirit for Charity

Jun. 11, 2019

As part of The Learning Partnership’s Entrepreneurial Adventure (EA) Program, CBE students from seven schools displayed their work on May 29 at the First Canadian Centre.  Students and their BMO industry partner create a business idea that will raise funds for a student selected charity. Students then work with their teacher and business partner to get their venture up and running; from pitching ideas, calculating costs and profits as well as marketing and selling their project.

This year, three CBE schools that participated in the project received national or local awards. The Children’s Village School received the national Diversity and Inclusion Award for their “Beadtastic!” business, which raised $1,300 for Brown Bagging for Calgary Kids. The “Mini Market” created by Grade 1 and 2 classes at Buffalo Rubbing Stone School received the national Enterprising Spirit Award, while Copperfield’s “Coppercade/Energy World” received the local Calgary BMO Award. Other successful businesses included projects from Olympic Heights, West Ridge, Simons Valley, and William D. Pratt Schools.

The Entrepreneurial Adventure Program gives students an opportunity to make meaningful connections between what they are learning in school and the world around them. They develop skills in critical thinking, communication and creativity. Students also enhance character and citizenship as they raise money for local and international charities.
