CBE Teacher Receives Young Band Director Award for Alberta

Nov. 13, 2018

Kelly Spoering, teacher at Stanley Jones School and Alice Jamieson Girls’ Academy, received the Keith Mann Young Band Director Award from the Alberta Band Association during the Music Conference Alberta in Edmonton, Oct. 27, 2018.  This award is presented to an outstanding new band director with less than six years of teaching experience in the province of Alberta.  Created to honour the memory of Keith Mann, the recipient will demonstrate Keith’s enthusiasm for and dedication to band music.

Kelly has been teaching band and music at Stanley Jones School for less than two years and has done an exceptional job in strengthening both the music program in Stanley Jones School and the band program in Alice Jamieson Girls’ Academy.

Here’s what students are saying about their amazing band teacher:

“Ms. Spoering makes band cool rather than geeky. She knows how to build a strong relationship and establish a sense of trust with her students.”

“Ms. Spoering is an inspiration to my peers and me. She has proven to us that hard work truly pays off and if we practice and stick with what we are doing; we will become amazing musicians.”

“She is not just a music teacher but a trusted adult with a long lasting effect of inspiration on her students.”

Congratulations Ms. Spoering!
