Marlborough School Student Honoured with IODE Award

Jan. 26, 2017

Students in the Grade 4 class at Marlborough School gathered around one of their own as Lara Hussain was recently honoured by the IODE for acts of citizenship and resilience.

IODE, International Order of Daughters of the Empire, is a charitable organization founded in 1900. Members are committed to enhancing the quality of life for individuals through educational support, community service, and citizenship programs. Their efforts focus on children and young adults and providing support for our Canadian forces active personnel.

Lara, a recent refugee from Syria has shown amazing resilience and dedication to her new life here in Canada. She is learning all about Canadian culture and language, often bridging between her past and future with members of her family close at hand.

In the words of the IODE representative, “young people can do anything in the world if they out their minds to it and have fun. But they need to: speak up, learn more, and make a choice – take action.”

Marlborough School is proud to have Lara and the Hussain family as part of our school community!
