Dual Credit - Introduction to Sports Management

​The Olds College course Introduction to Sports Management (SPM1260) will have students analyze various management models and organizational structures within the sport and recreation industry. Content areas include professional, amateur, Olympic, and intercollegiate sports. Topics of study include business operations, long-term planning in sports management, and considerations and challenges in sports management.

Student Eli​​gi​​bility

Open to CBE high school students who: 

  • Are in grades 11 or 12 during the program 
  • Have a strong interest to explore a pathway in sports management 
  • Are excited about taking a post-secondary course  
  • Have completed or on track to complete the following courses: 
    • ELA 30-1 or 30-2 (minimum 60%) 
    • Math 20-1 or 20-2 (minimum 60%)  

 Consider​​ations 

  • This course is offered Virtually, so students will not necessarily need to adjust their timetable. However, this is a rigorous post-secondary course and is the equivalent of one, 5 credit semester course 
  • Students must submit a personal learning schedule with their application (see application checklist for details) to support the minimum of 8-15 hours of course work per week 
  • Students will be expected to communicate with both their CBE supervising teacher and Olds instructor on a regular basis 

Program​ D​eliv​ery and Location

This course is delivered Virtually, fully online and the learning is asynchronous: 

  • Students learn on their own schedule, accessing the lectures and reading materials independently, however 
  • Students must meet all course assignment, quiz and test deadlines

  • How to Apply​​

    1. Read through the course(s) you are interested in applying for
    2. You are highly encouraged to attend the Information Sessions either before or after you apply for the program(s) to ensure the program is a good fit for you
    3. Download and fill in the Dual Credit and Exploratory Program Application Form.
    4. Refer to the application checklist and ensure all items are complete
    5. Book an appointment with your Off-campus coordinator and/or guidance counselor to complete your application with signatures from all parties
    6. The school will submit the application to Unique Pathways on your behalf

    All applications must be received on or before Friday, May 26, 2023 at 1:00 PM.  ​An application does not guarantee a seat in the program
