Dual Credit - Kinesiology 201

​This University of Calgary course, KNES 201 (Activity: Essence and Experience) is a foundational course in the Faculty of Kinesiology in which students study fundamental factors that influence the activities we choose and the way we move. In the activity sessions students engage in various activities and movement patterns, making connections to knowledge learned in the classroom component. Key concepts covered include physical literacy, health and wellness, leadership principles, and social factors relating to physical activity participation.

  • Upon successful completion, students will receive 5, 3000 level CTS credits and 3 University of Calgary post-secondary credits 
  • KNES 201 is a core course in Kinesiology and can be used as an elective for other programs

  • Learn and apply knowledge about physical activity, movement, and health and wellness in your own life and the lives of others​

Student Eli​​g​ibility

Open to CBE high school students who: 

  • Are in grades 11 or 12 as of June 2023 
  • Are committed to the academic rigor of a condensed university Kinesiology program 
  • Are able to arrange their own transportation to and from U of C for the duration of the course 
  • Are excited about taking a post-secondary kinesiology course  
  • Pre-requisite/Co-requisite requirements: 
    • Students must have completed Biology 20 with a minimum of 70% 

Consi​​derations 

  • This course runs over a condensed time frame; students should approach it as a full-time job for the month of July 
  • ​If enrolled in this course, students are not permitted to take other summer school courses due to the substantial time commitment to be successful.
  • Students must submit a personal learning schedule with their application (see application checklist for details).
  • Students should plan for a minimum of 15 hours of learning and assessment-related work (individual and collaborative) per week in addition to the 20 hours of instructional time (total 35 hours per week, minimum)  
  • Students are expected to attend all lectures and activity sessions and must clearly and quickly communicate with their CBE supervising teacher and University of Calgary instructor if an unexpected issue comes up

  • On-line Orientation Session (parents welcome) | Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at 6:00 pm​​​​

    1. Read through the course(s) you are interested in applying for
    2. You are highly encouraged to attend the Information Sessions either before or after you apply for the program(s) to ensure the program is a good fit for you
    3. Download and fill in the Dual Credit and Exploratory Program Application Form.
    4. Refer to the application checklist and ensure all items are complete
    5. Book an appointment with your Off-campus coordinator and/or guidance counselor to complete your application with signatures from all parties
    6. The school will submit the application to Unique Pathways on your behalf

    All applications must be received on or before Friday, May 26, 2023 at 1:00 PM.  ​An application does not guarantee a seat in the program
