Dual Credit - Object-Oriented Programming and Web Development

​Object-Oriented Programming (CPRG216) offered by SAIT explores the concept of computer programming languages as tools that can be used to provide IT business solutions. Topics include solving techniques, an overview of software design methodology, programming language terminology, and an introduction to the differences between styles of languages. The course also introduces students to basic programming structures. Web Development (CPRG213) introduces students to the concepts and fundamental technologies in web development. Students will explore standardized web technologies and languages, including front end HTML, CSS ASP.NET Core, and Javascript. In both courses, students will create and implement website applications using industry-standard programming languages.

Student El​​i​​gibility

Open to CBE high school students who: 

  • Are in grades 11 or 12 during the program 
  • Have a strong interest to explore a pathway in software development 
  • Are excited about taking post-secondary courses 
  • Are able to arrange their own transportation to and from SAIT to their home high school for the duration of the program  
  • Are on track to successfully pass the following courses or equivalents: 
    • Math 30-1 or 30-2 (minimum 60%) 
    • ELA 30-1 or 30-2 (minimum 60%) 
  • Have “power-user hardware and software” technology available: 

​​ Considerati​ons 

  • This course is offered in-person at SAIT, so students must have space in their timetable allocated for Semester 1 in September 2023 
  • Students are prepared to spend 5-10 hours per week of independent work time in addition to the instructional time at SAIT 
  • Students must submit a personal learning schedule with their application (see application checklist for details).
  • Students will be expected to communicate with both their CBE supervising teacher and SAIT instructors on a regular basis 

Program​ Deliv​​ery and L​​ocation

This course is offered In Person at SAIT (1301 16 Ave NW, Calgary, AB T2M 0L4) 

  • Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from SAIT campus   
  • Students are expected to be in attendance each day of this semester program
  • Students must meet all course assignment, quiz and test deadlines   
    • Attendance is critical for success in this program

    1. Read through the course(s) you are interested in applying for
    2. You are highly encouraged to attend the Information Sessions either before or after you apply for the program(s) to ensure the program is a good fit for you
    3. Download and fill in the Dual Credit and Exploratory Program Application Form.
    4. Refer to the application checklist and ensure all items are complete
    5. Book an appointment with your Off-campus coordinator and/or guidance counselor to complete your application with signatures from all parties
    6. The school will submit the application to Unique Pathways on your behalf

    All applications must be received on or before Friday, May 26, 2023 at 1:00 PM.  ​An application does not guarantee a seat in the program
