Balancing Enrolment at Captain Nichola Goddard, Buffalo Rubbing Stone and Panorama Hills Schools
In the fall of 2018, the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) identified a need to explore options to balance K-9 enrolment in the three schools in the community of Panorama Hills while ensuring regular program students could continue to attend school in the community. The CBE gathered feedback at a parent meeting and through an online survey to understand what was important to affected families as we considered changes to school boundaries and grade configurations for schools in the community.
After careful review and consideration of the feedback gathered at the Nov. 21 parent meeting and through an online survey, we have decided to make the following changes to the student populations at the three schools in the Panorama Hills community, effective September 2019:
- Buffalo Rubbing Stone School
- K-5 regular program grade reconfiguration
- School boundary changed between Panorama Hills and Buffalo Rubbing Stone schools (see map)
Note | Current Grade 3 and 4 students at Buffalo Rubbing Stone School, and their siblings, can remain at the school to complete Grade 5.
- TASC class for students with complex learning needs remains at the school
- Panorama Hills School
- K-5 regular program grade reconfiguration
- School boundary changed between Panorama Hills and Buffalo Rubbing Stone schools (see map)
- SKILL and CSSI class for students with complex learning needs remains at the school
- Captain Nichola Goddard School
- Grades 6-9 regular program grade reconfiguration
Enrolment projections for the three schools have been updated based on the decision. We acknowledge the decision results in Buffalo Rubbing Stone School projected to be over-capacity by approximately 19 to 37 students between 2019 and 2022. The principal is working on strategies and is confident student learning will remain strong.
