CBE’s COVID-19 Immunization Requirement

Nov. 09, 2021

Important details for parents, guardians, volunteers and spectators. New policy comes into effect on Dec. 17, 2021

Dear parents and guardians,

The Calgary Board of Education continues to make progress toward implementing an immunization requirement for all employees, contractors, on-site partners and volunteers — as of Dec. 17, 2021. This is a major undertaking that involves everyone at the CBE, as well as CBE families and communities.

Since my last update to you in October, we have finalized a policy known as the CBE’s COVID-19 Vaccinations Administrative Regulation that includes important details for families.

Most importantly for families:

  • Parents and guardians are not required to be fully immunized against COVID-19 when picking up or dropping off their children or attending in-person meetings such as parent-teacher conferences. However, teachers and other CBE employees may choose to schedule virtual or telephone meetings as an alternative to in-person meetings.
  • As of Dec. 17, 2021, parent volunteers and adult guests attending CBE extra-curricular events — sports, performances and assemblies — must provide proof they are fully immunized against COVID-19. Parents and guardians can anticipate further communication over the next month with details about how proof of immunization will be collected.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we strive to keep our learning and work environments safe for all.

Sincerely,

Christopher Usih
Chief Superintendent of Schools
