Requirements
To have your teaching application considered by The Calgary Board of Education (CBE) you will need to provide:
- a valid
Alberta teaching certificate and/or Journeyman Certification or equivalent certificate (if applicable)
- a Bachelor of Education Degree or equivalent recognized by Alberta Education
- transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended
- all practicum evaluation reports, regardless of graduation date
- all recent teaching evaluation reports*
- 3 recent professional letters of reference (at least 1 written by a supervisor) from professionals who can describe your current teaching practice*
*Wherever possible, documentation provided should be current (written within the past 18-24 months).
In order to teach with CBE, all teachers require a cleared Police Information Check (PIC) with a Vulnerable Sector Search recent within 6 months of their hire date. Due to processing times of Police Information Checks, we recommend applying for a PIC as soon as possible.
Beyond technical requirements, CBE also requires philosophical alignment with our values and approach to teaching and assessment, as well as strong evidence of TQS competencies.
Getting Started
To start your teaching journey with the CBE, complete one of our general teaching applications.
To access the application, you will need to register and create a personal profile in our job posting system. Once you create a profile, you can upload any additional documents to support an existing application (i.e. final practicum evaluations) or update any changes to your personal information.
You will be able to track the status of your application. Once your application is complete, you will be notified if we wish to conduct a screening interview.

Our Teachers Are Among the Highest-Paid in Canada
We value our teachers and compensate them very well. A new teacher with 4 years of education will receive $61,293 as a starting salary. This is one of the highest starting salaries for teachers in Canada. A starting teacher with 6 years of education and more than 10 years of experience will receive $105,173. (Jan, 2023)
CBE teachers receive numerous benefits, including paid vacations and personal days, pension plan, healthcare, dependants' health plans and life insurance.
Substitute teachers receive a highly competitive compensation package too. Not only do they receive a competitive benefits package, but on their second day in the same job, the substitute teachers’ daily rate is upgraded to the salaried equivalent.
